CHEMICALS IN PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS
Do you know what is in the personal care products you use everyday on yourself and your children's skin?
Before I started researching, I didn't.
I had absolutely no idea. I didn't really care either because I thought that if it was on the shelf, it was safe to use.
Looking at a product I was recommended by doctors and allergists for my son, Lakyn's eczema the ingredients are: Aqua(water), sodium laurel sulcate, glycerin, lauryl betaine, disodium cocoamphodiacetate, sodium cocoyl isethionate, peg-120 methyl glucose dioleate, glycol stearate, methylparaben, citric acid, propylparaben
I didn't know what these ingredients were, so looked them up and here are my findings.
The only natural ingredient is water.
Irritate sensitive skin.
May penetrate skin.
May dry skin.
Skin and eye irritation.
Effects gastrointestinal system and liver.
Symptoms are eczema, dermatitis, itching, hives, rash etc.
One ingredient said it wash't assessed for safety in cosmetics.

PLEASE TELL ME WHY I WOULD WANT TO USE THIS PRODUCT ON MY CHILD!!!!! especially when he has eczema...
Let me just say, I WAS MAD!!!
This was the turning point for me and listening to professionals when it came to choices for my son and my family.
It takes 26 seconds for chemicals to enter your bloodstream.
1 in 8 of 82,000 ingredients used in personal care products are industrial chemicals, including carcinogens, pesticides, reproductive toxins, hormone disruptors and skin irritants.
Carcinogen - Any substance, radionuclide, or radiation that is an agent directly involved in causing cancer.
Pesticide - A substance used for destroying insects.
Reproductive toxins - A substance or agent that can cause adverse effects on the reproductive organs and/or the endocrine system (which includes the thyroid and adrenal glands)
Hormone disruptors - Chemicals that may interfere with the body's endocrine system and produce adverse developmental, reproductive, neurological and immune effects in both humans and wildlife.
Here is just a few you may wish to avoid
PARABENS - Petroleum derived and effect the Endocrine system. Symptoms can include eczema, dermatitis, itching, hives, rash etc. Parabens are the most widely used preservative in cosmetics. The problem with parabens is they penetrate the skin, they have been detected in human breast cancer tissues, suggesting a possible link between parabens and cancer.
Common names include - Methyparaben - Butylparaben - Propylparaben -Isobutylparaben - Ethylparaben etc.
Commonly used in make up, body wash, fragrances, hair care & facial cleansers.
SYNTHETIC COLOURS - Normally petroleum and coal tar derived and are carcinogenic. Some colours are also suspected neurotoxic. Symptoms can include possible allergic reactions, ADHD in children, irritation to eyes, skin and respiratory system. Banned in the European Union.
Common names include - FD&C Blue 1, or FD&C Green 3, FD&C Red 4 etc.
FRAGRANCES -This ones a bit scary as individual ingredients are not identified, they are mainly synthetic. Suspected immune and neurotoxic. Symtoms can include allergic reactions, asthma and hyper-sensitive reactions.
Commonly used in perfume, cologne, hair care, body wash, make up and body lotions/moisturisers.
PHTHALATES - Normally petroleum derived and effects the developmental system, endocrine system, gastrointestinal system and liver, immune system, kidneys, nervous system and the reproductive system. Also been linked to birth defects and some are banned in the European Union.
Commonly used in nail polish, nail treatment, fragrances, scented oils, body lotions and hair spray.
TRICLOSAN - Petroleum derived. Effects the immune system and possible symptoms include allergic reactions, skin, eye and lung irritation and hyper-sensitive reactions.
Common uses include toothpaste, liquid hand soap, dishwashing liquid, deodorant, facial cleansers and pet shampoo.
SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE (SLS) & (SLES) - Synthetic and palm oil derived, possible symptoms include dry skin, skin, yes and lung irritation.
Commonly used in bubble bath, body was, hair care, acne treatment, liquid hand soap etc. A big concern is when SLS mixes with other chemicals to form nitrosamines, a carcinogen. This combo can then lead to other symptoms like kidney and respiratory damage.
FORMALDEHYDE - May be petroleum derived. Effects include, gastrointestinal system and liver, immune system, nervous system, reproductive system, respiratory system and carcinogenic. Symptoms can include asthma, human skin toxicity, sensitisation.
Commonly used as a preservative in nail polish, nail treatment, household cleaners, hair care and make up.
TOLUENE- Petroleum derived. Effecting cardiovascular system, developmental system, gastrointestinal system and liver, immune system, kidneys, nervous system, reproductive system & respiratory system also symptoms of skin irritation.

If this post doesn't Mae you want to start looking into your personal care products, then I don't know what will. But I sure now know I will not be using products that include these ingredients. Please research ingredients in everything you use and decide for yourself if its right for you, just because it says its natural doesn't mean it is.
